CherokeeLanguage and CommunicationBy: Lauren B. The Cherokee alphabet was said while someone was smoking a long pipe and
wearing a turban. The alphabet was written on a tablet that is
shaped like a rectangle.
Their
alphabet is really different than ours! Sequoyah, part of the Cherokee
tribe invented the Cherokee alphabet.
Here's
some of the alphabet: L, h, A, K. The Cherokees have lots and lots of legends. Some examples of the legends are Why the Opossum's tail is Bare, The Race Between the Crane and the Hummingbird and Ataga'hi the Magic Lake. The lessons are never be selfish, never be choosey and never believe people because they might trick you or tell you a lie. Legends are told so Indian children can learn right from wrong. Legends have been around for many centuries and they travel by mouth everywhere, anytime and any place.
Cherokee Indians have a more difficult way of saying
words. Their words have several syllables. Here are some examples: cat-we
so\ we si, bug-s go yi, birds-hi bv s gi - tsi s gus. Their vocabulary was
not as big as ours today. The Cherokee Indians spoke with less description
word, they were very short and to the point. |
