Ceremonies and Beliefs

Heammowihio was believed  to  be the main creator.  He  was called "The Wise One''.  They thought he was to have lived on earth for a time.  They believed that after death they would go to live with Heammowihio.

If the Cheyenne  does the Scalp Dance the tribes young men and woman paint themselves red and black.  The tribes older men and woman paint themselves black.  There are two in the middle and they are orange and black, they give the fire sticks.  The men beet the drums.  They also bring back the scalps this is how the dance gets started.  The scalps are flesh they are little so they have to stretch them out.

Ahktunowihio was the spirt of the Earth.  They asked him for food and water.  Sometimes the Cheyenne asked Ahkunowihio  for a good crop.  Sometimes the crops were plentiful.  Other they didn't get rain and their crops were poor.
