Ceremonies and Beliefs

  By: Mary C.

The Hopi believed Kachinas talked to the gods,so they used them in dances.    They made dolls for their kids so they could learn about Kachinas.  The Hopi use Kachinas for ceremonies and dances.  Each year they return to once more before returning to the sprit world.  The Kachinas dances are done by the men.

Kivas are for all ceremonies.  They have pictures of sprits and animals on them.  There is a hole in the north side and in the south side there is a bench for  visitors. The hole is where people first came into the world.

In  February the Hopi have a Bean Dance. The kids that are 6 and 7 come into the Kachina religion The kids are frightened at first, but after the dancers take the Kachinas off they know that they are only members of the tribe.  This is an important part of becoming an adult.
