Ceremonies and  Beliefs

By:   Vicki H.

One of the ceremonies of the Seminole tribe  is the sweet corn ceremony.   It is held in May and July.  How they dance in this ceremony is in a circle.  They call that ceremony the harvest festival or the new year festival.  The Seminole tribe still give it today.

The Seminole tribe did do similar things in different ceremonies.  One of the things is always wear bright clothes to ceremonies.  Women also have to dance in straight lines.  Most of the ceremonies are named after animals.  They also practically never use instruments.

The Seminole had a medicine man.  The medicine man is believed to have power over the spirit world.  The medicine man also had the knowledge to deal with animals,  ghosts, and powers, who brought illness and pain.  The Seminoles also believed that until the medicine man blew on the medicine, it would not work.  These are some of the Seminole ceremonies and beliefs.
