Language and Communication

By: Christopher T.

The Seminole's language was very important.  These are some of the words they used:  Nag-noo-che, which means Little Boy, and Ta-goo-che, which means Little Girl.  The word Seminole actually means run away!  The Seminole children knew how to speak the English language, too.  The Seminole children are still trying to learn their language.

A lot of the Seminole children went to boarding school.  They were encouraged by the white people to attend the schools and forget their Indian ways.    Most of the schools were in another state.  The Indians got home sick, because they were treated badly.  It was a sad childhood living in a boarding school.

The Seminole had a lot of legends.  One is about a rabbit that doesn't know how to behave.  The people don't like him so they make him kill an alligator and a rattle snake.  He tricks both of them and kills them.  The people think he has learned how to behave.  Their legends were important.
